I am now paying for various tickets and starting the process of getting visas. This is more arduous than I had anticipated, because the Chinese government (as from the start of this year) now requires a detailed itinerary, including hotel bookings and travel arrangements. As I was trying to arrange a fairly laissez-faire trip, going where I wanted when I wanted, without pre-booked arrangements, this makes life difficult. I now think that I have to employ the services of a travel agent or visa specialist in order to get what I need. Again this is not something I had anticipated doing.
